Macula Bamboo Portal
Is a collaboration between the light wielding Tech of HORSE and the bamboo craft innovation of Barefoot Sustainable Design. Originally conceived by Julien and Jaye after a bamboo construction workshop in Northern Rivers NSW. The 2 worked hand in hand to create the initial design developments for Sydney’s annual VIVID Light extravaganza. It is a first-of-its-kind sculpture made out of sustainably harvested bamboo precisely mapped with bespoke video animation. The structure involved the harvesting of nearly 1200 linear meters of Old Hamii Bamboo treated and constructed in modular for for easy installation and disassembly.
This installation is an immersive experience as the audience is invited to walk through this artwork’s mesmerizing, pulsing light show which invokes the perception of an abstract journey as the visitor wanders deeper into it.
In March 2022, Macula showcased under the aboriginal name Irretye (Eagle) at the Parrtjima Festival in Alice Springs with video mapped animations of the late Indigenous Australian artist Jeannie Egan.
