The Ananda Nature Care Project
Puutaparthi Andra Pradesh India
This 18 acre project originated as an opportunity to improve the welfare of villagers in an impoverished area of Andhra Pradesh through permaculture training.
The barren site was to be developed along permaculture principles through broadacre planting of green manure crops and the planting of over 5000 fruit and botanical trees.
Stage 2 of the project was to build and implement sustainable building guidelines to all existing buildings. All structures were designed around the existing landscape utilizing local materials, local craftsmen and the use of appropriate technologies.
Sustainable Principles
- Passive solar design
- Solar Hot Water
- Rainwater Harvesting
- Daylighting
- Creation of micro climates through the building of ponds and revegetation
- Construction of composting toilets (nutrient recycling)
- Grey water Recycling
- Creation of a 2 acres market garden
